OUR MISSION
The Gazette's NIE program is dedicated to improving the quality of education in Eastern Iowa communities by putting newspapers in classrooms, and providing free curriculum for teachers to use as they wish. Curriculum tools are provided online or through The Gazette staff to assist educators when utilizing the newspaper in their classrooms. Our goal is to help our youth become literate, knowledgeable, and informed citizens through reading The Gazette.
In today's world, technology, history, and ways to receive news are rapidly changing. Textbooks usually used in the classroom are often outdated, many times before their release - making newspapers the most up-to-date textbook. Newspapers also help develop students' creative abilities, improve reading skills, writing skills, research and communication skills.
