Atlanta Kennel Club Top Junior Handler Competition — October 20, 2012
We had 16 entries for the very first Atlanta Kennel Club Top Junior Handler Competition, a regional, limited competition, with 14 competing. Mary Ellen Macke and Valerie Dambrowski did a FANTASTIC job selecting four (4) finalists from each of their respective preliminary groups of 7 (seven), sending truly what are the top juniors in our area (in the country really) to the finals, where Robert Schreve had the very onerous task of picking just one (1) Top Junior Handler.

The finalists were:
  • Emma Grayson Echols from Watkinsville, GA
  • Chaz McDonnell from Greensboro, NC
  • Kimberly Benkiser from Cumming, GA
  • Rachel Kennedy from Clarksville, TN
  • Becker Reep from Weaverville, NC
  • Kylie Soafer from Roswell, GA
  • Mary Claire Ctibor from Milner, GA
  • Emily Goldstein from Chapel Hill, NC

Emma Grayson Echols, showing her Yorkshire Terrier, Tucker, received the nod from Judge Schreve as our inaugural Top Junior Handler, receiving a $1,000 scholarship that will be administered by the Atlanta Kennel Club Foundation and paid directly to an institution where Emma will enroll for post high school education or training.

It was a wonderful start to a what will prove to be a honored tradition of the Atlanta Kennel Club in its long practiced support of Junior Showmanship.
