The AKC Humane Fund has had a busy summer and I'd like to update you on some of its recent programs and events.
The Fund awarded the annual Sir John D. Spurling, KCVO OBE Scholarship for Responsible Pet Ownership Education in honor of the Chairman of the Board of PetPartners Pet Health Care and his accomplishments in support of the AKC Humane Fund.
This year's recipients — Shelby Brown of Massachusetts, Thomas J. Caltabilota of Alabama, Keandra J'Nai Howard of North Carolina, Amy Pauline McBirney of California and Brooke E. Appleton of Georgia — possess excellent academic credentials, outstanding experience and unique interests that will assist them in enhancing the human-animal bond and advancing responsible pet ownership in their professional careers. You can learn more about them here
In social news, in mid-August, the AKC Humane Fund partnered with Host Committee, an event planning agency, to pilot its first fundraiser targeted towards Generation Y working professionals. The sold-out "Dog Days of Summer Soiree" fundraiser took place at the Soho Grand Hotel in New York City and brought in over 175 guests to celebrate the human-canine bond, generate excitement around the Fund's mission to support women's domestic abuse shelters that accept pets and to introduce the organization to new audiences. AKC colleagues and friends are already inquiring about our next event and we look forward to an even bigger turn out.
The next opportunity to attend a Humane Fund benefit will be the third annual Michael J. Sauve Memorial Benefit, which will be held after the Brevard Kennel Club dog show on Wednesday, December 11th in Orlando, Florida. The evening will be filled with food, entertainment, raffles, auctions, and prizes, and is a wonderful way to remember Michael Sauve. Proceeds will benefit the AKC Humane Fund. Contact Peggy Hauck at Peguy@bellsouth.net
to make a reservation for the event.
It's never too early to mark the theater benefit featuring the Tony Award-winning Kinky Boots
or Barkfest at Bonhams on your calendars. They return February 7th and 9th, respectively. Thank you for your support at these events throughout the year. Please check www.akchumanefund.org
